The Kumon Method aims for students to go beyond their school grade level through self-learning and advance to studying high school level material at an early age.

When studying at the “just-right” level students think for themselves and complete the exercises. When they get stuck they look at the hints and examples incorporated in the worksheets and figure out themselves how to do the exercises. In this way, continued study at the “just-right” level fosters the ability to learn on their own, or as we say at Kumon, “self-learn.”

Students then use that self-learning ability to advance independently beyond their school grade level to higher levels and more difficult exercises.

Thus Kumon study makes it possible for students to advance to high school level material at an early age.

To sum up, the Kumon Method is a learning method that pursues the potential of each individual student and develops his or her ability to the maximum.

We at Kumon believe in the vast potential of our students and want to further develop each student’s ability. Born out of the bond between a parent and child, the Kumon Method of learning faithfully carries on the thinking and ideas of its founder Toru Kumon. At the same time, we constantly strive for something better by continuing to develop our worksheets and instruction method. And today, this learning method continues to go beyond the borders of countries, race, culture and traditions, to reach more and more countries and regions throughout the world.

Mathematics

The Kumon Maths programme is designed to help your children develop the ability to self-learn senior high school maths. Starting from recognising numbers for young children, your children enhance their calculation
skills, cultivate their mathematical analysis and develop logical thinking abilities. This leads them to develop the ability to solve various problems that they will face in the future.

Through the Kumon Method, your children studies at their own pace using the worksheets that are ‘just-right’ for them, such that it is neither too easy nor too difficult for them. Our Instructors will provide a free assessment, known as the Diagnostic Test, to gauge their ability and assign an appropriate starting level, and ultimately progress beyond their school grade level to study high school mathematics.

English

The Kumon English programme aims to cultivate high-level reading ability within all students. Through improving students’reading comprehension skillsto a high level, students acquirethe necessary mind-set to read passages critically. By focusing on developing reading ability through exposure to a wide range of books, students acquire greater interest in reading which facilitates learning advanced materials with independence and confidence.Through a series of worksheets, your child will learn tracing, writing, sentence structure, paragraph building, summarisation and critical reading.

Through the Kumon Method, your children studies at their own pace using the worksheets that are ‘just-right’ for them. Our Instructors will provide a free assessment, known as the Diagnostic Test, to gauge their ability and assign an appropriate starting level.

Children begin their Kumon journey with a starting point that they can score full marks easily. This builds their confidence and develops strong foundation to prepare them for more advanced concepts.

Students attend a Kumon Centre twice a week, while homework are given for the other days of the week, thus developing the good study habit of doing homework every day and not procrastinating.

In Kumon, your child has no pressure to keep up with the class and neither do we rush through a level without him fully grasping the concepts.

Advance beyond school grade level
In Kumon, learning is not restricted to age and school grade level. We start your child by building a strong foundation. Using the small-steps worksheets as little building blocks, we prepare your child for learning beyond their grade level in school, giving them an easier time with school curriculum as they have already studied in advance.

Aged 13 and above

Appropriate starting point
Using the diagnostic test, we start your child at a level appropriate to his abilities where he/she can easily score full marks. This builds their confidence and develops strong foundation to prepare them for more advanced concepts.

Develop good study habits
Students attend a Kumon Centre twice a week, while homework are given for the other days of the week, thus developing the good study habit of doing homework every day and helping students to study efficiently.

Develop life skills
Through daily study and self-learning, Kumon students develop work skills, initiative and independence – skills that they develop at Kumon that will benefit them for life, even in their future professions.

Progress at your own pace
In Kumon, our students’ progress at their own pace based on their ability. Our worksheets are designed to progress children little by little with the aim of progressing them beyond school grade level. Learning with the Kumon Method allows children to advance once they fully comprehend current concepts.

Advance beyond school grade level
In Kumon, learning is not restricted to age and school grade level. When students are able to fully comprehend current concepts, they are allowed to move on to the next level even if it means studying several years ahead of their peers in school.
